My father started a "diary" in 1945 (more accurately, a journal, covering both family and current events), and I'm going to see if this is a decent way to publish it. Since I'm doing it as a blog, to get to the beginning of the journal, you have to go to the beginning of the blog.

Took the kids to the park with me to play tennis. Sylvia had her pails and shovels with her but wouldn't dig and cried all the while because I wouldn't stay with her. [...] Beat Ludwig. We all walked to mother's and back. That is Sylvia rode in the carriage and Eugene his "bike". The Soviets have taken over the Kuriles Islands and Southern Sakhalin. Terror exists in Haiti. A negro has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic. Parker has defeated Talbert in the National Singles and S. P. Cooke beat Pauline Betz in the Women's. Soviet Champion Botvinnik beat Denker American champion in the ten-man team match of the international competition. The first day saw the Soviets lead us 8-2 as Smyslov beat Reshevsky, Steiner beat Bodarevsky, Flohr beat Horowitz, Pinkus drew with Lilienthal, Kupchik lost to Makogonov, Fine drew with Boleslavsky, Bronstein beat Santasiere, Kashdan lost to Kotov, Ragozin beat Seidman. Botvinnik beat Denker #1 match.
