Soviet Champion Botvinnik beat Denker American champion in the ten-man team match of the international competition. The first day saw the Soviets lead us 8-2 as Smyslov beat Reshevsky, Steiner beat Bodarevsky, Flohr beat Horowitz, Pinkus drew with Lilienthal, Kupchik lost to Makogonov, Fine drew with Boleslavsky, Bronstein beat Santasiere, Kashdan lost to Kotov, Ragozin beat Seidman. Botvinnik beat Denker #1 match.
