2/27/45

Had the sewing machine fixed today (Mollie's) and the charge was $2.50 for fixing the stitch - Ten Minutes work. They charge all the market can bear these war days. Sylvia huddled in a chair while the man was there but Eugene as usual watched very carefully. Sister Lillian came over in the afternoon. She's due soon.

"Mollie" was presumably my Aunt Mollie, married to my mother's brother Sam Modelson. Although the complaint about "all the market can bear" cost seems amusing, remember that, at the time, a NYC subway ride cost a nickel, and a first class stamp cost three cents.
