5/9

The war ended officially at 6:01 PM today but the Nazis are still fighting the Russians in some places. Keitel signed the surrender for the Nazis. Sylvia broke a lamp by backing into it. The surrender was ratified in Berlin. Zhukoff represented the Soviet Union. Tedder represented Eisenhower.

  1. I've read it all. What a magical window for us. BTW Klaus has a tie or two which he wears given to him by your father. I remember the ritual ending of our visits to your house in the Bronx with your father pulling out his box of ties and Mike picking out one or two with everybody voicing an opinion.
Are there more volumes of journal?

  3. Yes, it was reading carefully about those summers that got me to do this, although I'd been thinking casually about doing SOMETHING like this for years. And I'll be doing it for a long time! I have in front of me fifteen notebooks, going through 1964.

We'll get to his tie business, eventually. He first sold tennis balls as a side business, before the ties, but no mention of that, yet.
