3/20

Sylvia's chief difficulty is the word "finish". Two of her versions are "shemish" and "finips". Lillian got a first hand report from Mrs. Lyston on Eugene. "He's a grand boy and shows good training. He listens very well." Mrs. Lyston also compared him with her star former pupil who, recently as a radio announcer introduced Gen'l MacArthur. Had small carriage fixed for $2.00. We stopped for franks and beans at Nedicks and the kids had plates of ice cream. Celia Lurie came over in the evening. She took a philosophical view of world affairs saying we hadn't progressed much since early times except for Russia. She was rather pessimistic.

Not 100% sure of Sylvia's difficult word. Also can't be sure about the name "Celia Lurie", and I have no idea who she was. I'll scan in this page.
