10/24

Eugene had over 100° temp. today.and stayed in bed. Lillian read "Above Suspicion" by Highet, short stories by Pearl Buck and "Family Way" by Myron Brinig. The N.M.U. accused the shipowners with help of the W.S.A. of going out for private gains and delaying the return of GIs. Betancourt is an opportunist. The Dodgers have signed Negro player Jackie Robinson for their Montreal farm. Truman has asked a year's Army training for youth. Sylvia has suddenly blossomed out with lovely curls, delighting Lillian very much. Twenty organizations have joined to abolish the Rankin committee. Took haircut.
