1/4

Peron has ordered industrial raises and agricultural division of some large estates as a vote-getting device in the coming elections. Eugene drew "A Jungle Picnic" by Clifford Webb, "The Ferryman" by Bishop and Wiese and "Peter and Polly in Winter" by Rose Lucia. 17,000 Western Electric strikers have shut down 21 metropolitan plants. Truman has asked the people to press Congress to act on his program. Admiral Horthy has been released. Lord Haw-Haw died on the gallows. John Amery [?] did [sic] on Dec. 19. Chiang is out to capture Communist held Jehol. Lillian took Sylvia to Dr. Holzman. He diagnosed a slight sinus infection. She is to get argyrol packs and pills for iron, so now we have a baby elephant in the house. Mrs. Lyston read Alice in Wonderland in school. I borrowed the book from library today and Eugene is devouring it.

Could not find reference to a "John Amery" or any name like it; it would seem that "did" should be "died", but it's clearly written "did", and since I can't find a reference, I'll let it stand.
