7/12-7/18/53

July 12 Sunday To Woodlawn where I beat Feiner and taught Eugene. We all played ball and volleyed off court. Sylvia as usual wanted to play on the courts but she is not ready yet. Al Shakhet took us home. Red Worthington Giant rookie won his second successive start by a shutout tying a record. He gave 2 and four hits. He also stopped Brooklyn's bid for the A.L. record of home runs hit in 25 successive games. B'klyn broke the N.L. record by hitting homers in 24.

July 13 Eugene played with Larry in summer school then had lunch at his house. Lillian read "The Sadness in Lexington Avenue" M. Brinig and "The Dream Merchants" H Robbins.

July 14 The kids went to summer vacation play ground., North Koreans made their strongest attack in two years and gained 2-4 miles. Herbie Rawlinson in dead at 67.

July 15 Sylvia drew "The Dooleys Play Ball" - M. Renick, "Ballet in the Barn" R.J. Woody, "Roommates" L.C. Rendina, "Daniel in the Cub Scout Den" J.H. Kohler and two "Story Parade" magazines. Harvey O'Connor and Leo Huberman refused to answer questions about their Communist affiliations. I played tennis with the girls. Eugene and Larry went out to the park.

July 16 Beat Herb Levitt. The kids played in the Summer school and entered the ping-pong tournament.

July 17 Eugene and I went to E 163st for a telescope kit and found it included only the mirror. The temp. hit 95.8°. Hilaire Belloc is dead at 83.

July 18 Pop took us to and from Woodlawn in 95° heat. I beat Warren Burd and played chess and tennis with Eugene.
