Sept 17 Sunday We took a walk along the reservoir on a glorious Sunday afternoon stopping to watch a ball game for a while. Eugene and Sylvia battled with two sticks they picked up. Hazel Scott, latest target of Counter-Attack, lashed back at the blacklisters. 

Sept 18 U.S. Marines reached the Han River on the way to Seoul. The Nat'l Lawyers Guild hit back at the "UnAmerican Comm"'s charges that it was the legal bulwark of the C.P.

Sept 19 William Green called for an end to trade with Russia at the A.F.L. convention. The Big Three recessed talks here, deadlocked over German policy. G.Is reached Seoul suburbs while others seized bridgeheads across the Naktong River. India proposed the seating of Red China. New Rochelle enacted a Communist registration bill without public hearing. Al Fitzgerald at the U.E.'s convention placed the union behind U.S. actions in Korea. Sarah Algood [sic] & Pedro de Cordoba are dead.

Sept 20 Pop and Lil picked me up and we went to the Mt Eden Hospital to see Harry recovering from his hemorrhoid operation. The Big Three authorized a West German police force 40,000 men. Marines crossed the Han River. The fifth General Assembly meeting at Lake Success barred Red China as its first business 33-16 and 10 abstentions. The Labor Gov't by 6 votes won on the steel nationalization issue. Ex Communist Joe Zack testified at the trial of David Friedman first of the eight teachers to be tried by the department. A Garden rally of 12000 heard the C.P. pledge not to register under the Anti-red bill.

 Sept 21 Sylvia drew "Country Boy" - M.W. Buck, "Oh Happy Year With Dick & Dot" - Sisters of Saint Joseph, "In the City and on the Farm" - Crabtree Walker & Canfield and "Sue Ann's Busy Day" - Sally Scott. Eugene drew "A Touchdown for Doc - M. Renick, "Shanghai Passage" - Howard Pease, "Olive Fairy Book" - Lang and "Keystone Kids" - John R Tunis (Baseball). Marines drove into Seoul. At the UN Acheson urged a UN Army. Vishinsky asked U.S. Britain Russia France and China to cut their armed forces by one third and cooperate for peace. The House and Senate passed the catch-all "Anti-Subversion" bill 312-20 and 51-7. Former Nazis took over all positions in Schleswig-Holstein.

Sept 22 G.I.s gained in Seoul fighting. Lil and the kids went to see Dr Robbins. Sylvia and Lil had xrays. Sylvia needs two fillings $11. Eugene - two fillings $9. Lillian has a multiple filling - $9. Total $29.
Richard Lauterbach is dead of polio at 36.

Sept 23 Played Eugene three chess games and lost them all. Molly came over and had supper with us of hot dogs, french fries, baked beans, etc. Seoul defenders slowed down the U.S. marines. The House overrode the president's veto of the McCarran Bill 226-48. Dr Ralph Bunche won the Nobel peace prize.
