4/24 Sunday We went out to Lil Altschuler's for dinner to see Sam who was in from Washington where he works as a geologist. Sam Mike, Sam & Molly. Lil's cousin Vera, Harold & Thelma & Mr. & Mrs. Siegel. We played some open poker and listened to some music. The kids drew, read and played with the ping pong set they got from Lil.

4/25 Sylvia had to be awakened at 8:15 this morning. She had gone to sleep about 9:15 last night as we got home late from Lil's. Eugene sent away to the Book of Kn. for some information on railroads. Chinese Communists have trapped 300,000 gov't soldiers on their drive to Shanghai. 4/28 Sylvia was out of bed today but Lil called up Dr. Holzman who told her to give Sylvia an argyrol pack tonight and bring her to the office tomorrow as it sounded like sinus trouble to him. The F.B.I. claimed to have found many secret papers in Judith Coplon's handbag and a memo which referred to various radical personalities like Martens Poyntz Silvermaster Lore. Miss Coplon's defence rests on claims that she was about to write a book and that she intended to marry Gubitchev. Judge Medina denounced the conduct of the defendants in the trial of the '12'. Clark published a list of further Communist and fascist "subversive" organizations making a total of 159.

4/29 Lil took Sylvia to Dr. Holzman who said she had a bad sinus condition. Her temp was 101°. He prescribed sulfa, argyrol drops, privine. He said her tonsils were bad and would have to be removed. Bandits slew twelve Philippine notables including the widow of the first president Mrs. Aurora Quezon and her daughter and son-in-law. Huk guerrillas are suspected.

4/30 Eugene went to bed about 6 o'clock with a headache and 101°. His temp. went down with aspirin. There is mumps in the house which he has not had. It may be his sinus again. Both kids were in bed. Sylvia is better but is hoarse and has a loose cough. John Santo has won the right to leave the country voluntarily. Wallace is touring the country with the Italian left wing Socialist Sen. Giua and English Laborite M.P. Hutchinson. Konny Zilliakis was refused a visa. The statesmen are on a peace tour.
