July 16 The Socialist Parties met and re-constituted the 2ND International. UN and "Red" mediators resumed negotiations for a truce in Kaesong after the "Reds" accepted all U.N. conditions which were unrestricted use of roads leading to the site, no armed personnel in the neutral area, unarmed security guards. Ten were killed and scores injured in a demonstration protesting Harriman's arrival in Iran. The nation's costliest flood in Kansas City saw 17 dead and hundreds of thousands marooned. A tremendous oil fire has added to the disaster.

July 18 A Korean agreement is said to hinge on withdrawal of foreign troops.
July 19 We have made a deal with Franco for Air and Naval bases. The "House" banned all controls unless profits are assured. Jersey Joe Walcott at least 37 years old and father of six won the Heavyweight title by K.O. over Champion Ezzard Charles in the 7th round. It was his fifth try at the title.
July 20 Split with Warner. The House voted a 4 month freeze on wages and prices at the July 7 level.
July 21 We went out to Echo Lake picnic grounds with Flo and Charlie Solomon in their car. We ate our lunch on a picnic table then spent a few hours in the cool surroundings. We then had supper in a chinese restaurant on Featherbed Lane. Sylvia chose an American meal. King Abdullah of Jordan was assassinated. Talks in Korea were postponed to Wednesday.
